Visiting our Meeting House

If you have never been to a Quaker meeting before you may wonder what to expect.

Our Meetings for Worship on Sunday mornings usually lasts for an hour.  We gather together in silence to quieten our minds.  There are no ministers or creeds;  we don't have set hymns, prayers or sermons.

In the stillness we open our hearts and lives to new insights and guidance. Sometimes we are moved to share what we discover with those present. We call this 'ministry'. We listen to what everyone has to say, to find its meaning for us. Anyone can give ministry, including visitors.

Afterwards, we talk and chat over coffee and biscuits.

We believe that all people are capable of directly experiencing the divine nature of our existence - which is known by many names, God or spirit or simply light. You don’t need a priest or any other kind of spiritual intercessor; you don’t need to perform any kind of ritual.  When you need to hear from the spirit, you will.  We don’t require you to believe anything in particular about God - including the name “God”.  Each of us has our own relationship with this light.  When this spirit comes to us, these experiences are, ultimately, unique to each person.
